Photographs taken on Dungeness Beach

Getting there

Dungeness and nearby Romney Marsh have for centuries evoked a slight other worldliness, and have been described as the Fifth Continent. In the 1840s the Reverend Richard Harris Barham, writing as Thomas Ingoldsby in the Ingoldsby Legends, wrote "The world, according to the best geographers, is divided into Europe, Asia, Africa, America, and Romney Marsh."

  • The nearest train station is Appledore - a 20 minute drive to Dungeness
  • Ashford International - a 30 minute drive to Dungeness - has a regular fast service from London St Pancras (approx. 35 minute journey)
  • Bus service to Dungeness (more details to follow)
